Justice Feutrill was appointed to the Federal Court on 8 March 2022.

Justice Feutrill graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Law in 1996. Justice Feutrill attained a Masters of Laws from the University of Western Australia in 2007.

Justice Feutrill began his career as a barrister and solicitor in 1997 at a boutique litigation firm and later at Freehill Hollingdale & Page (now Herbert Smith Freehills). In 2002, he joined the Western Australian independent bar and thereafter, apart from a short period during which he worked in international arbitration with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Paris office, he practiced solely as a barrister in commercial litigation and arbitration.

Justice Feutrill was appointed Senior Counsel in 2018. Justice Feutrill is an honorary fellow of the University of Western Australia Law School where he teaches International Commercial Arbitration and has also taught International Investment in Mineral Resources.

Associateship applications

Justice Feutrill is taking applications for an associate to commence in June 2025.

Prospective applicants should possess the following attributes:

  • a law degree (completed as at June 2025);
  • a high level of academic achievement (Honours or equivalent is essential);
  • high-level research and analytical skills;
  • excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills; and
  • editorial skills.

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, an academic statement and a brief statement as to why the applicant would like to work as an Associate to Justice Feutrill and the attributes they believe they will bring to the position.

Applications are encouraged from applicants who are already in the profession or are students and wish to pursue a career at the bar.
