Justice Graeme Hill was appointed to the Federal Court on 2 April 2025.
Justice Hill graduated from the Australian National University in 1992 with a University Medal in Law, and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor to the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory in 1993. He worked at the Attorney-General’s Department and then the Australian Government Solicitor in legal advising and constitutional litigation between 1993 and 2006. He was associate to the Hon. Justice Kenneth Hayne at the High Court of Australia in 1997-98. He completed a Master of Laws at Columbia University in 2001, and was counsel assisting Commonwealth Solicitor-General David Bennett AO KC in 2001-02. Justice Hill signed the Victorian Bar Roll in 2007 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2021. At the Bar, Justice Hill specialised in complex administrative and public law issues including constitutional law, migration law and native title.
Justice Hill has written extensively on constitutional and administrative law issues, and is a co-author of the 3rd to 5th editions of Hanks’ Constitutional Law in Australia.
