Urgent (Duty) Applications in VIC, QLD & TAS (Region 2)
The process for making an urgent (duty) application is set out in the Duty (Urgent) Applications Interim Practice Note during 3 Region Trial (GPN-DUTY). Where the Duty Judge is satisfied it is appropriate, urgent (duty) applications may be heard using audio-visual links. Applicants for urgent (duty) application must:
- read and be familiar with the GPN-DUTY Practice Note;
- identify according to the criteria in the GPN-DUTY Practice Note whether the application is a General Duty Application or a Commercial & Corporations Duty Application;
- submit a Certificate of Urgency in accordance with the Practice Note when applying to have an application listed as an urgent (duty) application.
A person or company without legal representation making an urgent (duty) application must use the following contacts:
- if contact is made during business hours, the Registry on 1300 720 980;
- if contact is made after hours, the After Hours Duty Registrar on 1300 352 000.
Practitioners making an urgent (duty) application must use the following contacts:
General Duty Applications: Justice Hespe (from 8.30am on Monday, 17 February 2025 to 8.30am on Monday, 24 February 2025)
- During business hours: practitioners may contact the General Duty Judge’s Associate on (03) 8638 6502.
- After Hours: practitioners must first contact the After Hours Duty Registrar on 1300 352 000.
The After Hours Duty Registrar will liaise as necessary with the relevant Duty Judge’s Chambers.
Commercial & Corporations Duty Applications: Justice Button (from 8.30am on Monday, 17 February 2025 to 8.30am on Monday, 24 February 2025)
- During business hours: practitioners may contact the Commercial & Corporations Duty Judge’s Associate on (03) 8638 9610 or (03) 8638 6629.
- After Hours: practitioners must first contact the After Hours Duty Registrar on 1300 352 000.
The After Hours Duty Registrar will liaise as necessary with the relevant Duty Judge’s Chambers.
