Online Files (Public Interest Cases)

In high profile cases or in cases where there are a high number of media requests for file access, the Court will establish an online file where publicly accessible material will be placed.

Where the Court determines that an online file will be created, documents from the proceeding will be added to the online file in accordance with a protocol laid down by the Court. Consistent with rule 2.32 of the Federal Court Rules 2011, these documents will comprise unrestricted documents, together with affidavits read in open court, documents received into evidence as exhibits, submissions acted upon in open court or in a judgment of the  Court, and orders and reasons for judgment. Some redactions may be applied to material in the documents.

If an online file is created this is the only means by which non-parties may access documents in a proceeding. Accordingly, non-party access requests should not be made.

Basic case details of all Federal Court matters - including court events and orders - can be found on Federal Law Search.
